accessibility

The Pico Design website is made from ground up to be accessible to the widest range of people it can be. The site adheres to the W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guideline (WCAG), and has been checked both automatically and manually for accessibility errors. The Pico Design website achieves Priority level 3 of the WCAG, which means that the website is much more accessible than the basic level required.

The accessiblity features which will help people use this site are listed below:

Access keys

Access keys make it easy to navigate the main sections of the website using the keyboard. Numbers are used so that the access keys do not conflict with screen reading and other browsing software. The Access keys used on the Pico Design site are as follows:

Sitemaps

To use Access keys, there are some different methods used in different web browsers. In Safari, Chrome and Internet Explorer it's Alt (Ctrl on Mac) and the access key, only in Internet Explorer you'd have to hit the Enter key to go to the page you want. In Firefox you would press Shift and Alt (Ctrl on Mac) and the access key. In Opera press Shift, then Escape, then the access key.

Text sizing

All text on this website has been designed to be fully scalable. This means that the size of the text can be changed easily from your web browser. For most web browsers, such as Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Internet Explorer you can hold down CTRL and press the plus or minus keys (or use the mouse scroller) to make the text larger or smaller.

Javascript, Styling and Images

The website uses some Javascript, but only to enhance existing functionality of the site. The site will work perfectly well without any Javascript. The site has also been designed to work well, and be easy to use, with no styles applied to the website. Images all have alternative text so that the site can be understood if images are not able to be seen.
